Spitz-Bunker (001-007)

2022 - Present
Variable Dimensions
Boiled Sugar

Cast from boiled sugar, the form is based on the monolithic Nazi-era Spitzbunkers at the Wünsdorf Waldstadt Site, Berlin.

By offering up this industrially enriched sugar energy source to the local ecosystem, have we become benevolent custodians of nature or have we become a destructive influence over a delicate system?

Unlike the real bunker – a once-functional object designed for the preservation of life, material and power – this sugar-bunker is a symbol for anti-preservation. It represents a ceding of human control to the natural processes of reclamation; an embracement of instability through the process of decay as the sculpture weathers and is devoured by nature.
